Epic Games Achievements
Establishing global logic frameworks, XP formulas, and visual metadata standards for a cross-device ecosystem.
Overview
Epic Games was setting DAU records every day, but the store lacked a meaningful, system-wide rewards model to engage and retain users. The challenge was building an infrastructure that scaled globally without disrupting existing developer-created achievements. I led the discovery and development of the platform achievements framework, establishing the underlying logic, XP math, tier criteria, and UI visual approach. This work created a durable foundation for intersecting identity, reward, and developer experience systems across millions of cross-device users on PC, mobile, and web.

Audited and standardized existing game achievements across platforms to establish a scalable, unified experience framework.
Architected the logic & XP math model, defining a strict 1,000 XP total budget per title split across Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum tiers.
Designed the UI visual strategy, framing platform achievements as clean metadata overlays to protect game art integrity while adding universal visual cues.
Mapped cross-functional dependencies, aligning parallel platform initiatives across EOS, launcher, and profile teams to ensure multi-roadmap integration.

Member research showed that platform progression works best as a clean, standardized addition rather than a competing interface. We protected the bespoke art direction of for individual games while providing players with a consistent, cross-catalog progression system.
Logic & System Architecture
XP Math & Tier Formulas
To prevent inflation and ensure cross-catalog balance, we defined a standardized 1,000 Total XP budget for every enabled title. In-game developer actions map directly to platform-level triggers, creating a unified progression loop where platform XP feels like an added bonus rather than a separate, confusing layer.

Preventing cognitive overload
Displaying dense achievement data across dozens of games creates visual friction. I established the UI strategy using a 3-layer progressive disclosure model: starting with a global platform XP score, expanding into game-specific Trophy Cabinets, and grounding in localized in-game overlays.
